Soprano Camila Mandillo is currently an artist in residence at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel (Belgium), under the guidance of Sophie Koch and Stéphane Degout. 

A graduate of the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin, she completed both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees with distinction, studying with Martin Bruns and Uta Priew - supported by a scholarship from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. She has also received several merit-based awards, including the Deutschlandstipendium, Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now Berlin e.V., Bernbeck Stiftung, and the 2022 DMR Stipendienprogramm as part of Neustart Kultur.

 

Camila began her musical studies at the Escola de Música do Conservatório Nacional de Lisboa, where she studied classical singing and guitar, and was a founding member, soloist, and assistant artistic director of the Children’s and Youth Choir of the University of Lisbon. She has deepened her artistic development through masterclasses with renowned singers such as Sabine Devieilhe and José van Dam, and through collaborations with leading musicians including Bernard Foccroulle, Philippe Pierlot, and Iestyn Davies amongst others. 

 

Recognized as a prominent voice in contemporary music, Camila performs regularly in chamber music recitals, Lied, opera, and contemporary repertoire, distinguished by her versatility and expressive range across genres. Her operatic roles include Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro (Mozart), Donna Anna and Zerlina in Don Giovanni (Mozart), Pamina in Die Zauberflöte (Mozart), Giulia in La Scala di Seta (Rossini), Morgana in Alcina (Handel), Belinda in Dido and Aeneas (Purcell), and Ser I in A Laugh to Cry (Miguel Azguime) – an award-winning opera that has toured nationally and internationally since 2022. She also premiered the roles of Hana in Blown off Course (Pedro Rebelo), Penélope in O Regresso (João Quinteiro), and Eurydike IIb in Eurydike (Feliz Anne Reyes Macahis), part of the Neuen Szenen IV production at the Deutsche Oper Berlin.

 

In the field of contemporary music, highlights include the performance of Pierre Boulez’s Pli selon pli with the Gulbenkian Orchestra; soloist appearances in the ENOA workshops Composing for Voices and Orchestra with composers Kaija Saariaho (2023) and Luca Francesconi (2024), also with the Gulbenkian Orchestra; the representation of Portugal at Art’s Birthday - Euroradio Ars Acustica Special Evening 2023, broadcast live on international radio; the opening of the 2024 Música Viva Festival with Mysteries of the Macabre by György Ligeti alongside the Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa; and the interpretation of Reinaert Fantasie by Hans Vercauteren at the 2025 Antwerp Spring Festival with the Orchestre National de Lille.

 

Camila has collaborated with various ensembles, including Il Gardellino Orchestra, Orchestre de l’Opéra Royal de Wallonie-Liège, Philharmonisches Orchester des Staatstheaters Cottbus, Preußisches Kammerorchester, IEMA Ensemble, Echo Ensemble, Concrète {LAB} Ensemble, the Gulbenkian Orchestra, the Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa, and the Baroque Orchestra of Casa da Música. Since 2020, she has been actively involved in projects with the Sond’Ar-te Electric Ensemble. 

She was featured as one of the main performers at the World New Music Days 2025 in Lisbon, with particular prominence in the opening concert at the Centro Cultural de Belém alongside the Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa.

 

Following a joint nomination by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Casa da Música, and BOZAR, Camila was selected by the ECHO network as one of its six Rising Stars for the 2026–2027 season, with a tour across some of Europe’s most prestigious concert halls.
